garage-doors

Did you know that 53% of homes in the United Kingdom but only 24% of people use them. At the moment your garage may have a concrete floor and a mountain of stuff that you have been meaning to throw out for a while. We would recommend starting from scratch when it comes to making better use of the space. We have put together some tips and tricks to help you make the most of the space in your home.

Vertical Storage

If you are looking for more space in your garage we would recommend looking up! Vertical storage is a fantastic option if you are running out of space on the ground. As much as you will need the garage for storage you will also need the car to be stored there too. Store anything you need the most at eye level and then continue up from there.

If you are a worker and you love to create things installing a magnetic knife rack but use it for your tools. This will help you keep your tools and accessories organised and will keep those missing nails from ending up on the floor at worse than that of your tyres.

Create A Mudroom

Instead of tracking muddy boots through your home, create a part of your garage into a makeshift mudroom. You can add a store bench for hats, gloves, shoes and more and some coat hooks to hang up your coat. You can even include a dog bath if you have a puppy who you take on long walks, giving them a wash before they enter the home is always going to be a huge bonus.

Update Your Garage Door

If you’re updating your garage you may want to update your garage door too as if you don’t it can affect the curb appeal of your home. Making the most of your space most certainly includes updating your garage doors. You can choose between automatic or manual and if you don’t want to replace the door you can give your existing door a lick of paint.

Add Insulation

The garage has the biggest entry point to your home, which could mean the biggest draughty point to your home. If you want to make sure your garage is warm in the winter, insulation is the way forward. This will make the room usable all year around.

Install Cabinets

You have already made over your kitchen with new cabinets so why not do the same in your garage door. Adding some cabinetry can help keep the clutter out of site and out of mind. This will make you less stressed everytime you use the space or need something from it.

Instead of taking up a huge amount of space in your garage with a traditional workbench, install a folding one instead. This will allow you to have the perfect workspace without taking up too much room for your car or for storage.

Add Security

Your garage will be protecting high end and valuable items such as your car, sporting equipment and tools. If you want to protect your home from intruders you can add security cameras to your space. Motion cameras come with a light which can help to deter anyone who might otherwise see your space as an easy target.
